Grace De Lemos

Sustainable Landscape Designer

Welcome to Rooted in Grace!

I’m Grace, and my passion is helping people cultivate landscapes that nourish both the earth and the soul.

A Bit About Me

Hello, I’m Grace—the founder of Rooted in Grace. My journey in sustainable agriculture and landscape design has been shaped by experiences that connect science, community, and stewardship. From inspiring work at ECHO Global Farm and a youth mission trip to Haiti, to intergenerational gardening with my grandfather, I’ve learned that every garden is more than soil and plants, it’s a story of resilience, care, and restoration.

I hold a degree in Agroecology & Sustainable Agriculture and a certification in Landscape Design. My skills range from permaculture and regenerative gardening to client-centered design and community education. Whether I’m creating food forests, teaching workshops, or guiding families toward food sovereignty, my goal is always the same: to design landscapes that nourish both people and planet.

Rooted in Grace was born from a vision of ecological justice, food accessibility, and faith. I believe landscapes should be beautiful, functional, and restorative—spaces where communities thrive and ecosystems heal. My approach blends scientific rigor with empathy and collaboration, ensuring that each design reflects the unique values and needs of the people I serve. I believe we were designed to be stewards of the Earth, and I intend to fulfil my purpose.

Beyond my work, I love cooking, spending time in nature and with my husband, and honoring traditions of stewardship passed down through my family. I am slowly learning to get back to the basics like canning and using other preservation methods, build with natural materials, making home remedies/medicine, and more. I love trying new things and using my hands!

I would be honored to walk alongside you in creating a landscape that reflects your vision, restores the earth, and leaves a legacy of abundance.

Education & Work Experience

Landscape Design Certification

Bachelors in Agroecology & Sustainable Agriculture

Nursery & Retail Associate

I earned my Landscape Design Certification through the New York Institute of Art and Design (NYIAD), where I studied the fundamentals of design alongside advanced, hands‑on techniques for creating outdoor spaces. The program emphasized plant identification and application, structural materials, irrigation and maintenance practices, and the business skills needed to operate a landscape design service. This training equipped me to interpret site conditions, apply design principles, and develop detailed plans that balance ecological health with client goals.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Development with a concentration in Agroecology & Sustainable Agriculture from Appalachian State University. This program equipped me to design and steward resilient food systems by studying ecological processes such as nutrient cycling, water use, and plant–animal interactions. This foundation allows me to integrate both science and community values into every landscape I design.

During my time as a Nursery and Retail Associate at ECHO Global Farm, I gained hands‑on experience in sustainable agriculture and community education. I worked directly with diverse plant species, assisted visitors in selecting appropriate plants, and supported the farm’s mission of equipping communities with low‑resource agricultural solutions. This role deepened my knowledge of tropical plants, nursery management, and appropriate technologies, while also strengthening my ability to communicate ecological practices in ways that empower others.
